TPS: Innovation for Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Summary: Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS) is an innovative, non-invasive brain stimulation technique that uses low-intensity shock waves to stimulate the brain. Approved by European regulatory approval with CE Mark and Thai FDA, this procedure requires no surgery or recovery period. Clinical studies show good results in Alzheimer’s and dementia disease, slow down the progression and improve quality of life.

1. What is TPS?

TPS, or Transcranial Pulse Stimulation, utilizes low-intensity shock waves to precisely target and stimulate deep brain tissue (3-7 centimeters) without surgery.

2. Has TPS been approved?

The first TPS treatment for Alzheimer’s disease was studied at Vienna University in Austria beginning in 2015. The protocol was gradually developed until 2018 under the NEUROLITH® system. This technology has received CE Mark approval from European regulators and FDA approval in Thailand

3. What conditions can TPS benefit?

Emerging research suggests that TPS may improve memory, cognitive decline, and Long COVID brain fog, as well as alleviate symptoms in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learning disorders (LD), and depression.

4. How long does a typical TPS treatment session last?

A standard TPS session lasts 30-60 minutes. Patients attend three sessions per week for two weeks. There’s no need to shave the head; a conductive gel is applied. MRI-neuronavigation with real-time feedback ensures precise stimulation

5. TPS result

The significant memory improvements started after TPS 1 month, with peak benefits at the third months. The duration of these improvements can be vary depending on the the individual factors, but the effects can persist at least 6-12 months.

6. TPS side effects

Common side effects of TPS include frontal tension or headache, which usually resolve within 4-6 hours. Some individuals may temporarily experience insomnia, hyperactivity, increased thirst, or cravings due to the brain’s increased energy and nutrient needs during recovery

7. TPS precautions and contraindications

  • Recent stroke (within 3 weeks)
  • Aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
  • Brain tumor, cancer, or brain metastases
  • Active seizures or epilepsy
  • Intracranial bleeding
  • Implanted electronic or metal devices
  • Scalp lesions (wounds, infections, trauma)
  • Severe or aggressive psychiatric attacks
  • High-dose corticosteroid therapy within 6 weeks
  • Coagulation disorders (e.g., hemophilia)
  • Cerebral thrombosis

Individuals with these conditions may be considered for TPS after a thorough assessment using the Brainwell✚ AlgorithmⓇ to evaluate the potential risks and benefits.

8. Are TPS results consistent across all providers?

While TPS devices may be identical, treatment outcomes can vary based on factors such as careful evaluation and the expertise of the practitioner. Like robotic surgery, TPS requires a high level of knowledge and skill to achieve optimal results. Incompetent use can lead to adverse effects, including misdiagnosis of tumors, cancer, seizures, or internal bleeding

9. What is TPS Brainwell✚?

TPS Brainwell✚ is an advanced brain stimulation technique developed by Brainwell Medical in collaboration with European experts. It’s designed to treat a wide range of conditions, including depression, cognitive decline, Parkinson’s disease, autism, learning disorders, and language disorders. By using additional biomarkers like qEEG and LORETA, TPS Brainwell✚ enhances the precision of its treatments.

Brainwell Medical is dedicated to sharing the advancements of TPS technology with professors worldwide. We collaborate with experts like Prof. Dr. Med Lars Wojtecki, Prof. Teris Cheung, Dr. Cheng Pak Wing, and Prof. Dr. Med Oliver Seemann.

Brainwell Medical pioneered the introduction of TPS technology to Thailand after discovering it at the International Neuroscience Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2022. Our TPS technology received FDA approval in Thailand in 2023.

Brainwell Medical Bangkok pioneered TPS treatments in Thailand. This means you can access world-class TPS therapy without traveling to Europe. Our six-session treatment package is competitively priced at 90,000 baht, compared to the 100,000-130,000 baht cost in Europe.
