Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD)
What is PTSD?
PTSD is known as post-traumatic stress disorder, a psychological condition that can arise following experienced intense or extreme circumstances. These circumstances can include combat, natural disasters, serious accidents, terrorist attacks, sudden death of a loved one, sexual assault or abuse, or other life-threatening events.
These events typically involve a threat to one’s life or physical, emotional, or spiritual integrity. PTSD can manifest across all age groups.
Individuals experiencing PTSD may have strong and recurring thoughts and feelings about the traumatic event for a long time. To receive a PTSD diagnosis, symptoms must last for more than a month and must cause significant distress or make life really tough and interfere with your daily functioning.
PTSD brings stress reactions (symptoms) like:
- Severe anxiety, depression, or feelings of guilt or shame.
- Having flashbacks, nightmares or visual hallucinations.
- Encountering panic attacks.· Engaging in avoidance behaviors, avoiding situations, places and activities related to traumatic events and more…
Effective treatments for PTSD often include:
- Psychotherapy with a psychologist or psychiatrist (Talk therapy), they can provide support and guidance to you and/or your loved ones to help you function better and increase your well-being.
- Engaging in active or outdoor activities can help relieve stress and reduce avoidance of distressing memory.
- Medications must be prescribed by specialists only.
People with PTSD have abnormal levels of certain neurotransmitters and hormones. They also experience brain changes.
At Brainwell Medical Pattaya and Bagkok, we focus on treating the most complex and medication-resistant cases. Some people have difficulty curing or recovery from PTSD after a talk therapy session or have been taking medication for a long time. Our specialty is treating mental and neurological disorders using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS Brainwell✚) and transcranial pulse stimulation (TPS Brainwell✚).
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS Brainwell✚) is becoming increasingly popular as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), especially among veterans. TMS therapy involves applying magnetic advanced brain stimulation to brain regions that release stress hormones.
